MOSS™ servers to buy or rent.
What is MOSS™?
MOSS™ Managed On Site Servers are built using high-performance, renewed Dell hardware. They are available to purchase outright, where they are typically priced at 50% of the new price, or as as a maintenance subscription service. If supplied as a subscription service, MOSS™ servers are delivered to site, but owned, managed, maintained and warrantied by VMS Co. This allows the MOSS™ subscription to be classed as a maintenance subscription and therefore budgeted as an operational expenditure (OpEx).
MOSS™ servers are renewed
MOSS™ servers are renewed rather than new. They are in excellent functional condition and built with trusted components known for their longevity and durability. This enables VMS Co. to provide a 7-year, field-engineer-led warranty, including next-business-day support and parts, plus access to a 9-to-5 help desk and portal-based ticketing.
MOSS™ servers are typically sourced from data centres, so they may show cosmetic wear, including unavoidable rack-mount related scratches and marks.
Service tag
The MOSS™ server service tag is used as a build reference. However, the MOSS™ server build no longer matches the original DELL configuration, apart from the chassis, because all internal parts (including CPUs, GPUs, RAM, PSUs and fans) have been replaced. These parts are new or refurbished and selected for the quality, reliability and longevity needed to meet both the performance specification required and the 7-year warranty.
MOSS™ servers include a large lid label with instructions explaining how an installer or end user can access the warranty.

MOSS ™ Sustainability
VMS Co.’s MOSS™ servers are a highly sustainable ‘GreenTech’ solution, focused specifically on carbon reduction by avoidance, where the impact is far greater than the carbon offsetting approach; which doesn’t fundamentally deal with the problem. Government sustainability policy means that carbon-offset and avoidance must be reported in ESG (environmental, social, and governance) reporting.
MOSS™ Subscription or Cloud
MOSS™ has the performance benefits of a local server and the commercial benefits of Cloud.
VMS Co.’s unique, MOSS™ maintenance subscription has many of the benefits of a Cloud service, including affordable, monthly subscription payments; managed servers; upgrade capability; full warranties and comprehensive technical support. However, unlike Cloud, video streaming and broadband costs are kept low, on a local server, and there is less dependence on unreliable broadband or WAN networks.
