Managed On Site Servers or MOSS™ - a new VMS subscription option
What is MOSS™?
MOSS™ stands for Managed On Site Servers. Our MOSS™ servers are built using high-performance, renewed Dell hardware. They are available to buy outright, where they typically priced at 50% of new, or as a maintenance subscription service, where they are delivered to site, but owned, managed, maintained and warrantied by VMS Co. This allows the MOSS™ subscription to be classed as a maintenance subscription and therefore an operational expenditure (OpEx), keeping costs low.
Although the MOSS™ servers are renewed, they are in perfect condition and delivered within 10 working days. They come with a 7-year, field-engineer-driven warranty with next-business-day support and parts. It includes access to a 9-to-5 help desk and portal-based ticketing system.
MOSS ™ Sustainability
Government sustainability policy, updated in 2026, means carbon-offset requirements are mandated and no longer voluntary. VMS Co.’s MOSS™ servers are a highly sustainable ‘GreenTech’ solution, focused specifically on carbon reduction, where the impact is far greater than the carbon offsetting approach; which doesn’t fundamentally deal with the problem.
MOSS™ Subscription or Cloud
MOSS™ has the performance benefits of a local server and the commercial benefits of Cloud.
VMS Co.’s unique, MOSS™ maintenance subscription has many of the benefits of a Cloud service, including affordable, monthly subscription payments; managed servers; upgrade capability; full warranties and comprehensive technical support. However, unlike Cloud, video streaming and broadband costs are kept low, on a local server, and there is less dependence on unreliable broadband or WAN networks.
