Why renewed MOSS™ servers help meet the “Greening Government” ICT strategy.

MOSS™ (Managed On Site Servers) is a unique service from Video Management Servers Co. (VMS Co.) offering subscription-based, sustainable servers optimised for video management systems and AI analytics.

The MOSS servers, which are renewed, are managed, maintained and warrantied by VMS Co. engineers, on site, for up to 7 years. This fully aligns with recent developments in government strategy which now recognises and mandates renewed equipment and active net zero planning.

Nick Bowden, MD of VMS Co., said, “The Greening Government ICT and Digital Services Strategy demonstrates a growing compliance imperative for using renewed servers. It requires a yearly increase in leased ICT (Information and Communication Technology) equipment, such as the servers used in VMS and AI analytics applications, to be renewed, remanufactured or refurbished; with Government departments required to report on their adoption of this strategy.

“In addition, a recent government Procurement Policy Note requires government ICT procurement contracts over £5m to have Net Zero Carbon Reduction Plans, from November 2025, specifically stating remanufactured ICT equipment be a constituent.

“MOSS™ offers integrators and end users an unique advantage in this area, as an affordable, green server solution. Components, boards and chassis equipment with proven longevity are renewed, often with new PSUs and hard drives. These are managed on site by our support engineers for their warranty period, usually 7 years. They have a substantially lower carbon footprint attributed, with as much as 57% emissions being saved, because they avoid new manufacture and reduce landfill. With government departments having specific emissions reduction targets, the switch to MOSS™ can make a significant contribution to corporate sustainability goals.”
